Video: Hilarious – Martin O’Neill’s brilliant Celtic negotiations

Martin O’Neill’s hilarious Celtic negotiation skills have come to light in a brilliant clip of Matt Elliot lifting the lid on the Irishman’s humour in transfer talks. In a podcast with UndrTheCosh, Elliot revealed how O’Neill managed to negotiate Elliot’s demands down with a simple put-down, involving a famous French footballer.

The Englishman played under O’Neill at Leicester and there were hints Elliot would follow him to Paradise but that wouldn’t come to pass.

O’Neill excelled at Leicester City and won the League Cup there before taking the Celtic job in 2000. He led Celtic to three league titles, three Scottish Cups and a League Cup – and memorably all the way to the Uefa Cup Final in Seville in May 2003.

Following his departure from Celtic in 2005, O’Neill had successful spells with Aston Villa, Sunderland and Ireland. However his most recent role, a return to Forest, didn’t work out well.
