Video: Hugh Keevins Left With Egg On His Face After Yet Another Premature Rant

Hugh Keevins is one of the most consistently wrong pundits when it comes to opinion making. The veteran Scottish journalist famously mocked the signing of Lubomir Moravcik and the decision to start the genius against Rangers back in the 1990s. Of course, Lubo scored twice in a 5-1 victory that day and went on to become known as ‘a gift from God’, such was his incredible ability.

It goes without saying that someone working in football every week can get things wrong from time to time. However, Keevins is now an expert at predicting or prematurely announcing the opposite outcome of Celtic games, from that which actually happens. Forget tipsters, if you’re a gambler just listed to Clyde SuperScoreboard and back against anything Hugh says!

This season, the outspoken pundit has slandered Celtic and doomed them to dropping points on multiple occasions – only for the Hoops to roar back and score a late winner. Having mocked our defending against St Johnstone and Dundee United, before the Bhoys came back to seal the points, he admitted “this is now a practised tactic by this Celtic team”. Therefore, you’d think he would have learnt to keep his counsel moving forward. It was not to be…

Celtic amassed 33 shots and 80% possession against Aberdeen yesterday. Kyogo missed a glaring chance and the goalkeeper made decent saves, while the ball flashed across the six yard box with alarming regularity in the second half. Given the way the game was going, and Ange Postecoglou’s team’s proclivity in front of goal in the dying embers of matches, many of us held hope of a late winner. Hugh, instead condemned Celtic to a stalemate in the 80th minute. He claimed the chances had gone and now they must worry about Aberdeen sneaking a winner.

Callum McGregor had other ideas and left the journalist with egg on his face once more. Maybe he will learn that a game of football is 90 minutes long, plus injury time, in the future.
