Former Celtic defender Alan Stubbs has admitted that his old club has a sizeable challenge ahead of them as they look to wrestle back the Scottish Premiership trophy which has been lost for the first time in a decade to city rivals theRangers.

And Stubbs appreciates that Steven Gerrard’s side have had a decent campaign, to win their club’s first ever major trophy. “Rangers are gathering momentum and have been very good this season,” Stubbs admitted to Sky Sports. So, Celtic have got a huge challenge on their hands now,” the former Hibs manager said.

And talking of managers, Stubbs reckons that the best candidate for the Celtic job is the former Bournemouth boss.

“It’s so important the managerial appointment that they make. Looking at all the candidates that are there right now, for me Eddie Howe jumps out as the best one for it,” Stubbs said. “I think he’s a really good coach. He’s done really well at Bournemouth in terms of the job he did keeping them in the Premier League for years.

“At this moment looking at the list of names that is there, Eddie Howe would be the one for me.”
