Video: “It’s the Celtic man,” Maeda gives Japan the lead but Juranovic’s Croatia strike back

In this afternoon’s game between Japan and Croatia, Celtic pair Daizen Maeda and Josip Juranovic are going head-to-head for a place in the Quarter-final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Both men have featured heavily for their respective countries and helped in equal measure as Japan and Croatia both escaped tricky groups.

Japan are currently 1-0 courtesy of a Daizen Maeda strike from inside the box. It all started from a Japan corner initially, which was eventually worked into the Croatian penalty area. TheRangers Borna Barisic was left for dead again as Maeda slipped through his clutches to fire the ball into the net from close range.

Japan have been by far the better side in the first half and Josip and his teammates need to step it up if they are to have any chance of winning this one. Daizen and his countrymen look well up for it and it would be a wonderful achievement if this Japan squad could make it into the next round.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
