In a recent Celtic TV interview, John Kennedy revealed his delight at the return of Brendan Rodgers to Celtic. Kennedy opens up about the relationship that he and Rodgers shared during their first spell together at Celtic, and how he is delighted that he will get to team up with Brendan again.

When it was announced that Ange Postecoglou was leaving Celtic in favour of the Spurs job, it was heavily rumoured that John Kennedy would be joining Ange at Spurs. However, the Celtic assistant coach ultimately decided to stay and has now reunited with Rodgers as pre-season starts to get underway.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Kennedy said…

“We’ve worked together in the past and had success. He’s one I’ve kept in close contact with in my time and it’s great to have him back on the back of two successful seasons. Brendan will come in and he knows the club inside out, he knows the staff and he’s going to work with new players who are young and hungry. He’ll enhance the process. He’s got higher standards, he’s a stickler for detail and a terrific guy to work for.

“It’s great for us. In terms of the relationship it’s been there the whole time and I’ve had a great relationship with him. Hopefully, there’s more of the same.”

Kennedy also reveals the differences between Ange’s and Brendan’s coaching styles as he expects Brendan to be far more hands-on in his approach. He continued: “Brendan is a different character altogether in terms of how he gets involved, how he likes being around people and a bit more social as well. That’s his style. It’s how he gets into people’s minds and gets the best out of them.

“Ange had a different character in how he drew the best out of other people. It’s two different styles, both very successful in what they do but for the players, it’s a change, a new character and someone they will have to prove themselves too and hopefully, it’ll be a stimulus for them to go and be really successful again.”
