Video: Peter Lawwell offers Dubai apology in ‘Message to Our supporters’

Amid continuing controversy surrounding the ill-fated and ill-advised trip to Dubai the Celtic CEO Peter Lawwell has this afternoon released a video in which he addresses the reason why he sanctioned the winter training trip to Dubai but accepts that with the benefit of hindsight that was a mistake and Celtic should not have gone.

Lawwell however outlines the high standards at the club wit regards to observing all protocols and notes that despite numerous instances where the club have had to travel abroad for European matches and the summer training camp, there had not been a single positive case within the Celtic bubble until Christopher Jullien tested positive after his test on Friday.

Neil Lennon, Scott Brown and poolside after arriving Dubai ahead of the Winter training getting underway.

Lawwell also points out that the club is not arrogant or out of touch as many have claimed and points to the Foundation having already donated over £1m of supporters money to Covid related worthy causes since the pandemic began.

The interview is staged by Celtic TV and controlled by the club. We appreciate Peter Lawwell taking the time to release this video and to accept that he’d made a mistake over sanctioning the trip to Dubai.

However we’d like the opportunity to question him ourselves and we have a request pending to do just that. Surely there is nothing to fear from speaking to the Celtic support via The Celtic Star. Others such as David Low at The Celtic Trust have done just that.

Over to you Peter. We’re ready when you are.

  1. Apology not accepted. It had the hallmark of “if you want an apology here it is but I don’r mean it”.
