Video: Pundit suggests underlying issue behind Benjamin Siegrist’s Celtic role

Former goalkeeper Cammy Bell has suggested that there is an underlying issue at play regarding Benjamin Siegrist at Celtic. Scott Bain started for Celtic in place of the suspended Joe Hart, who is club No.1 but on Friday’s Clyde Superscoreboard, the question was posed to the panel as to why Siegrist wasn’t in contention to start at Fir Park.

Siegrist was signed from Dundee United in 2022 as he looked to challenge Hart for the number one jersey. However, after some outings in the Cup competitions, he then went AWOL for some time with then-boss Ange Postecoglou coy on the injury-front. It has been widely reported that Siegrist has a girlfriend in Australia and he could be looking to reunite with her in due course. You would expect that the Swiss stopper would move on either in January or next summer.

Scott Bain was solid in the game this afternoon, there were probably a few stops that you would expect him to make but he was assured nevertheless. It is unlikely that Bain will serve as a successor to Hart but it is clear that he is rated at the club with both Ange and Brendan entrusting him.

Meanwhile Thursday 19 October is going to be a very special day for The Celtic Star so please save the date…

John Hartson will be The Celtic Star’s guest of honour as we celebrate the launch of Matt Corr’s new book Majic, Stan and the King of Japan on Thursday 19th October at the Kerrydale Suite at Celtic Park. More information on the night and ticket details to follow…. Majic, Stan and the King of Japan tells the story of Gordon Strachan’s first dramatic and ultimately highly successful first season as Celtic manager and it was of course Big Bad John who scored the goal that won the league!
