Video: Scottish FC Chief Executive and the Rangers issues

THE new Scottish FA Chief Executive Ian Maxwell in now in post having replaced the hopelessly compromised Stewart Regan.

Regan’s mess is one of the first things that Maxwell is going to have to deal with in his first few weeks – the SFA’s Compliance Officer last week issued Rangers with various charges in relation to the European licence granted in 2011, in the matter that has become knows as Resolution 12.

There seems to be little doubt that Rangers had outstanding social taxes due to HMRC in relation to the so-called Wee Tax Case.

Regan also left any fall-out from the secretive 5 Way Agreement for his successor to deal with – the new charges link the old club’s behaviour to the new club’s – if you think that they are different clubs. If you think that it’s the same club then it’s bang to rights anyway.

Rangers have until today to answer the charges so Maxwell is bound to be in at the deep end before too long.

Maxwell 42, joins the Scottish FA from his role as Managing Director of Partick Thistle.

His career in football began at Hampden as a player with Queen’s Park, with subsequent spells at Ross County, St Johnstone, St Mirren and Thistle.

Here’s what he has had to say as he starts his new job.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be here. It’s a huge honour.

“I think I bring a unique understanding of Scottish football across every level.

“I’ve played and scored in every division in Scotland, which I’m not sure many have done.

“I was assistant manager, General Manager and Managing Director at Thistle.

“My son plays for Cumbernauld Colts, I’ve coached his teams for a number of years, and I still play Over-35s football on a Sunday afternoon so Scottish football means a lot to me.

“I see it from different viewpoints – on and off the pitch, from the boardroom to a local level.

“Having an understanding of the issues that every different area of Scottish football faces can only help in dealing with them.”
