On this day in 1993, one of the most shocking refereeing decisions in Scottish football history took place. Celtic hosted Rangers in a tense derby tussle, and after John Collins put the Hoops ahead, Andy Paton doubled the lead.
As more than half a dozen Celtic players went to celebrate Paton’s goal in front of the Jungle, the referee allowed Rangers to restart the match and the ‘Gers broke away from the kick off. It was 11 v 3 for a moment, but somehow the visitors squandered the opportunity.
Andy Payton “Yes I got the winner & yes this actually happened one of the most bizarre decisions I’ve ever seen on a football pitch, at least 6 players were celebrating in front of the jungle when the referee allowed Rangers to kick off, unbelievable!” pic.twitter.com/1riKtccq12

Fortunately, this shocking decision didn’t lead to anything and Celtic won the game 2-1.
Been out and hadn’t read Liam’s article However I got this email from a supporter of theRangers reminding me that THERE’S BEEN A THROW IN …
“Maybe you forgot Roy Aitken taking throw in for rangers and Celtic scoring in Scottish cup final years ago too stop a blue treble but hey always cheated never defeated your club complete jokes”
David Gaywood
1989 Scottish Cup final he’s talking about folks. Celtic were wrongly awarded a throw in and he’s been carrying it around ever since….
