Video: Stephen Welsh opens scoring for The Champions

Stephen Welsh has scored the first goal of the 2022/23 campaign after an early corner. Jota won the corner but it was the central defender that made the most of it, scoring to send a packed Celtic Park into celebrations.

Captain Callum McGregor had unveiled the league flag earlier as the Scottish Champions toasted last season’s success but focus quickly shifted to the new campaign.

Welsh, who has been the subject of interest from French side Toulouse, glanced the corner from O’Riley beyond Roos in the Dons goal.

It has been the perfect start and the manager will hope his side can push on and get a few more goals.

  1. Walker was saying there was nobody near Welsh when he scored. Andy Walker is blind or stupid or both.
There were 3 defenders right up with home when he scored and one of them was fouling Welshy as he went up for the ball. It was a fantastic strike by Welsh. Walker is a poor commentator and a power pundit who cannot analyse properly. He is just full of stupid statements made up on the spot to suit his own imagination.
