Video – Toothless Spaniard laughs at the latest Statement from the Rangers

THE RANGERS released another angry statement this evening repeating all the bluster of the past week but omitting the bit about them having the evidence to bring down the SPFL.

Teams like Stranraer, Partick Thistle (in particular) and Hearts all have genuine grievances and it is not up to the clubs to come up with eh restructuring plan – basically a 14 team Premiership with three leagues of ten below that, for next season.

That will resolve the unfairness that these hitherto relegated sides will have otherwise have faced. There should be no club punished unduly as a result of the pandemic.

However what the Rangers are going on about is a genuine mystery to many, although not the media. Gerrard was on Sky Sports this morning saying them repeating the party line but he faced no questions at all to challenge that position. He was back home in England, incidentally.

If they are mad that Celtic are being awarded the title from a position of 13 points clear when play stopped perhaps they should have considered that they are being awarded second place even though it was mathematically possible for them to be caught. So where at the statement after statement after statement from third placed Motherwell who mathematically at least could still catch the Rangers.

So they have no more earned the runners-up spot in the league that Celtic had won the title. A pandemic stopped play and frustrated the football authorities worldwide from playing games. The other clubs don’t really care who wins the league when their own club’s position needs to be defended.

If UEFA are going to allow all of the smaller leagues to call it a day and declare the Champions and play out the top five leagues behind closed doors (the latest suggestion) then if and when that happens there will be very few teams named Champions with a league as commanding as Celtic’s.

Yet look all over Europe and try to find a runner-up club who are making angry noises like the Rangers.

This isn’t about Celtic getting named Champions – and we repeat Celtic want to play the games and celebrate the title win on the park with the fans. This is about them failing to win anything at all since they were re-formed from the ashes by Charles Green in 2012.

Their anger is all about Celtic winning ten trophies in a row and adding an eleventh. They can’t even stop that going to twelve either – because when the Scottish Cup semi-finals for 2020 are played later in the summer or into the autumn, the Rangers won’t be playing. Celtic will.

There behaviour has been perfectly summarised with the toothless Spaniard laughing his way through an explanation through beautifully crafted subtitles which will be more accurate than the Sky Sports effort at the start of the year – remember that?

Well done to all involved with this one. It’s funny, very, very funny…

And if they want to talk about Asterix titles here’s where they should start…
