Pundit casts doubt over Celtic’s attempts to sign star with claims he will cost more than £10m

It’s been interesting to see how influential Fraser Forster has been this season, and in a way that incredible form could cause some issues for Celtic.

When he first arrived it was clear that Southampton didn’t want him, so the main obstacle to a permanent deal was his wage demands, but there could be a fear that Southampton might decide to cash in.

He’s also proven he can make a difference in Europe too, so it wouldn’t be a total shock if another Premier League team saw this and decided to make a move.

It’s important to be cautious when any former Rangers player talks about Celtic in the press – any negative views are more likely to be wishful thinking rather than fact, but Alan Hutton had been speaking to Football Insider about Forster’s future:

“It is going to be very difficult. We are talking about £10million, maybe more. We are talking about a guy in great form who is entering the peak of his career. He has done unbelievably well.”

“I think the goalkeeping issue is a difficult one for Celtic. Craig Gordon is out of contract in the summer and for Forster to go back will be expensive, even the wages will be huge. They will have to sort it out in the summer.”

It’s hard to tell where that £10m price tag has been plucked from, but you do wonder if Celtic will need to rely on there being no interest from other teams, as that will help to keep the cost down.

It’s also important to remember that he’s talked in the past about being happy at Celtic and he’s already seen that the Premier League isn’t everything, so hopefully Celtic can find a way to keep him for longer.
