Video: “You go there and you want to win for the supporters, for yourself and for the club,” Callum McGregor

Callum McGregor is now back in Celtic kit after being away with Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for the two friendlies against Poland and Austria and the Celtic captain has now turned his compete focus towards the Glasgow Derby at Ibrox at the weekend.

Speaking to Celtic TV this morning the message Callum McGregor will be giving to his fellow Celtic players ahead of the game is as follows:

“Just to stay calm, we know exactly the way we want to work. Wee’ve been doing it for seven, eight, nine months now in terms of the gaffer’s message, the way he wants us to play and when you come to these big games it’s important to stay calm and remember your principles, the way we work and the way the team functions – you do your job for the team and you get that success as a collective.

“By all accounts, I spoke to some of the guys this morning and by all accounts the training week has been good this week so far. We’ll have a wee breather tomorrow then ramp it up for the weekend so I’m under no illusions that we’ll be absolutely ready come the game, we’ll be fully focused and will carry out what the manager is asking us to do and like I said the players will give everything and we go there together to get a result.

“That’s what you are tasked to do, you go there and you want to win for the supporters, for yourself and for the club, everyone together. I speak about that all the time, we are all as one in everything we do. We go there and our job is to win and to win well so that is exactly what we will be doing come the weekend. That’s the full focus we go in we prepare properly and you have to perform. You have to be absolutely right to make sure we get maximum points.”
