Vintage Edouard gives Palace lead over Arsenal, shades of iconic Celtic winner

Former Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard is continuing to excel in England with an excellent finish to give Crystal Palace the lead against Arsenal. The player has impressed since swapping Glasgow for London. The centre-forward showed exactly why Celtic fans rated the ex-PSG youngster so highly, his ability on the ball and instinct in front of goal highlights why he can go to the very top.

It was inevitable that the Frenchman would depart in the last transfer window given that he had less than a year remaining on his deal. He appeared to have his eyes on a move to England and no one can begrudge him this. He is an excellent footballer and it is vindicating to see him take the Premier League with such ease.

It is vintage Edouard, with the taking of the ball with a quick turn to deceive the defender before unleashing a fierce effort. The goal had shades of Edouard’s opener in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Rangers in 2019 that helped bring 8-in-a-row back to Paradise.

Celtic will hopefully net in the region of £20m given the add-ons attached to the deal which has an initial payment of £15m. Edouard departs having scored 87 times and assisted 39 times for the club since arriving in a £9m deal back in 2017.

The game ended 2-2 its Arsenal equalising in stoppage time.
