It was not the result that Fran Alonso wanted but it could have been much worse. Despite taking an earlier lead through Tegan Bowie Celtic conceded almost straight away then fell behind to a speculative 30 yarder lob over Chloe Logan in the Celtic goals.
Spartans spent the second half trying to hold onto their half-time advantage as Celtic desperately chased a couple of goals that would take them to the top of the league. The woodwork came to the Edinburgh’s side’s rescue on a couple of occasions and it was beginning to look like one of those days as the clock ticked down well into time added on.

The Charlie Wellings found some space in behind the Spartans defence and the rest was inevitable, the striker does what she does best, finding the back of the net to salvage a point. And frustratingly it could and perhaps should have got even better when Irish international Izzy Atkinson with seconds remaining burst through herself but failed to find the back of the net.
