“We have 5 games to go and we are in a strong position in terms of the table,” Ange rejects pressure narrative

Ange Postecoglou explained that it was business as usual at Lennoxtwon this week with the process being exactly the same regardless of the result in the previous game. Win, lose or draw Celtic under the Australian handle things in a consistent manner, the game is reviewed, analysis is given to each of the players, then the focus very quickly moves on to the next game.

And under Ange Celtic don’t focus on the result as such it is always more about the performance because the more you get that right and continually strive to improve on it, the more you tend to find that the results get more favourable.

That’s not to say there will never be bumps in the road and as Ange Postecoglou freely admits there have been many already in his time at the club but its the response to these set-backs that make all the difference and that comes through improved performances.

“Our message this week has been the same as every other week as we analyse our performance and the result was disappointing but we do our analysis and move on pretty quickly as we know there is another game coming around,” Ange said at today’s Media Conference ahead of the next game, Ross County away and the first of the five remaining matches which will decide if Celtic are going to be champions this season.

“We had no midweek games and that meant we could train a bit more and after extra time some of the body needed an extra couple of days in terms of recovery,” Ange explained. “It was a less intense earlier in the week and we were back working hard for the weekend.

“From our perspective, nothing has really changed whether we won or lost last week. Our processes will still be the same and that was to give feedback to the guys about our previous games’ performance and move on pretty quickly.

“We have done that all year and it has been a similar week I understand the result was disappointing last week and we are out of the cup but ultimately in terms of the league, nothing really changed for us. There are five games to go and every game is going to present its own little challenge and we have just got to be ready for it.”

Asked how his players are dealing with the pressure after the Scottish Cup defeat ahead of the remaining five league matches, Ange refused to buy into that kind of mindset.

“I understand that is where the kind of mindset is outside here but within our group, we have never approached the season in that manner if we did then after round six the pressure would have been really on. We knew we had to more or less be fairly perfect after that to make sure we were in a position to challenge for the league.

“That is where we are now, we are in that position and we have five games to go and we are in a strong position in terms of the table and a strong position in terms of our performance and that is all we need to focus on. I don’t think anything else needs to become important from a player’s perspective and what they feel and the way they behave.

“I haven’t seen any significant changes and they will be disappointed after last week but irrespective of the result it did not change our challenge this week as it is a different competition with different objectives.”
