‘We miss our supporters terribly’, Lennon hopes for fans return next weekend

NEIL LENNON has admitted that he and his players are desperate for fans to be allowed back to Paradise. This morning sparked hope that Celtic versus Motherwell could be used as a test event to trial social distancing and measures to allow fans to make a tentative return to games – something which Lennon was in favour of.

Speaking to Celtic TV as the manager previewed Celtic’s trip to Tannadice on Saturday evening to face Dundee United, the manager was asked to comment on reports that Celtic Park could be used as a test event next weekend to try out social distancing at Paradise.

“It’s fantastic. The club have been working with the Government trying to make this happen and later on down the line opening the gates even more so which would be brilliant.

“It is great having football back but obvious that a huge element is missing in the game we all want back.”

Nicola Sturgeon initially said that mid-September would be the target for a return to a semi-decent capacity with all regulations and workings in place. Lennon hopes that the news that swimming pools and gyms opening up means that supporters could be allowed back soon as well.

“We miss our supporters terribly.

“I really hope so (supporters to return soon) looking at mid September for the Government to open up gyms and swimming pools – hopefully stadiums in that criteria too.

“We are hoping that we can use next week as a trial basis and that it will work for everyone moving forward.”

Saturday evening’s match is the first time since 2016 that the Scottish Champions have made the journey to face the Tangerine half of the City of Discovery following their relegation that year.
