‘We seem to have unearthed another gem in Ewan Henderson,’ David Potter

Yesterday’s game was quite a good game to get out of the way! It could have gone horribly wrong for Celtic, but the goals were well taken and although we seemed to get unduly upset about that rather unfortunate incident which led to the Motherwell goal, we recovered well and the 4-1 scoreline was in the end a fair reflection of the play

The Motherwell goal was a sad comment on the fact that not every team plays the game in the correct Corinthian spirit, but however much we deplore what happened, it was a salutary lesson that we cannot take anything for granted.

The gentleman concerned was young and inexperienced, but that does not excuse him.

Nevertheless it did not have any great bearing on the result (although it might have) and we have to stress that there was nothing illegal in what he did. Immoral, unprofessional and unsporting yes – but illegal no. Celtic must be wary that it never happens again.

But the Celtic goals were all good, and we seem to have unearthed another gem in Ewan Henderson.

Odsonne Edouard had the best game he has had for some time, and it was good to see Olly Burke, a man who has suffered some unjustified criticism of late, score a good goal at the end.

The general performance of the team was good and purposeful, and it was great to see the team (much changed from Thursday night) get back on to winning ways. It shows what a deep pool of talent we have.

And we will need our deep pool of talent. 14 games remain, none of them easy, and the focus now shifts to Edinburgh. Tynecastle is never a pleasant place to visit, but we owe them one from the game at the start of the season, and of course Easter Road is a “must win” or else there will be no treble treble!

In the meantime, there are two things I do not want to hear linked for a while.

One is “Brendan Rodgers and Leicester City” and the other is “Motherwell and sportsmanship”! I look forward to hearing what Tam Cowan on BBC Radio Scotland has to say about this. Tam supports Motherwell and does not love Celtic!
