CELTIC’S Football Stadium Manager Robin Buchanan has posted a photograph this morning of ‘something new’ in Paradise. It’s sitting there, just out of it’s box, at the end of the tunnel in the Main Stand at Celtic Park ready for it’s first appearance in Paradise tomorrow evening.
Celtic suffered the first time one of these things was used, when the Swiss FA grassed big Jozo to the SFA when they were trialling it in a pre-season friendly. The beaks at Hampden wasted no time in imposing a two-match domestic ban on Simunovic despite it being discretionary.
Then it was used for the first time in a competitive match involving Celtic last Thursday night in the Parken Stadium when the Russian referee Sergei Karasev had a look and decided that the ball had struck Ryan Christie on the arm – it had – and that it somehow merited a yellow card – it most certainly did not.
Fraser Forster’s penalty save meant that there was no damage done by Karasev’s correct penalty call but the impact on his second decision – the harsh booking resulting in a suspension for Christie – will not be apparent until later on tomorrow evening.
By that time maybe the new addition to proceedings at Celtic Park will actually work for Celtic on a third time lucky basis. Or at the very least. we’d settle for it not going against us again!
