“We’re working on a couple of others,” says Postecoglou as Kobayashi and Johnston get a taste of Paradise

Celtic new signings Yuki Kobayashi and Alistair Johnston took a bow at Celtic Park last night and got their first opportunity to watch a match where Celtic weren’t at the free-flowing best but, despite the curious interpretations of the ludge-VAR scoundrels, still got over the line to restore the nine points lead at the top of the league, looking down on theRangers.

Ange Postecoglou has made it clear that he is no longer going to speak about VAR and if anyone is expecting anything from the Celtic Board on this matter then they haven’t really being paying enough attention. Last night’s decision was truly remarkable when it is almost impossible to construct an argument that Liel Abada could have been offside.

There will be more of this in the games against St Johnstone and Hibs with these two sides standing ready to get the ‘rub of the green’ at Celtic’s expense as a desperate collective attempt to eat into the Celtic lead ahead of the Glasgow Derby is played out right before a silent Celtic’s eyes.

On thing Ange Postecoglou was willing to talk about last night was the new signing situation as the January window gets ever closer. Speaking to BBC Sportsound the Celtic manager confirmed that he remains active as he looks at improving the squad window-by-window as he has outlined is his intention trying to make Celtic ready to compete effectively at Champions League level on a regular basis.

“I’ve said all along that we are constantly working,” Ange Postecoglou said. “We’re not into January yet and I’m really pleased with the two lads that we’ve brought in so far.

“It’s fair to say that we’re working on a couple of others and when they drop will depend a little bit on how things go.”

And on the flip-side the Celtic manager anticipates that there could be movement in the other direction with players leaving the club, most likely of course to fall into that category is Josip Juranovic whose star will never shine as brightly as it does at the the moment after his outstanding showing for Croatia at the World Cup in Qatar. The bronze medalist is surely planning on earning himself a life-changing move and that will of course be good business of Celtic. These are the realities and no-one at Celtic could wish to deny him that kind of opportunity that is almost certain to be coming his way.

Earlier this week Ange Postecoglou stated that the club had so far received no bids for any player – including Juranovic – but that of course could change as the Celtic manager admitted last night.

“That doesn’t mean it’s done because in January there’s always the potential for outgoings and we’ll have to be ready to move if that happens. Hopefully in the next week or so we’ll be able to make some further inroads.”
