West Ham manager wants Celtic in new-look Premier League

David Moyes wants Celtic to be in the new-look Premier League. The West Ham boss wants a British competition in the wake of the failed European Super League plans from the traditional Big Six in the Premier League.

As reported by the BBC, the former Celtic defender stated that Celtic and Rangers would be welcome in a revamped Premier League.

“I think the Premier League has a brilliant product, I really do, but at the top clubs you’re talking about too many games, so could we have Premier League I and Premier League II?

“Could we have a situation where we do invite Rangers and Celtic to Premier League II? Why can we not unite the UK? Why do we have to be England and Scotland and not unite it?

“Why can it not be a pyramid that allows teams in the Scottish leagues to get into Premier League II? In fact, I think actually more money would filter down if Rangers and Celtic could be given an opportunity to come in.”

The prospect of an English-Scottish league has been suggested for some time. However, it has never come into fruition for one year or another. TV money has taken the English game to higher levels of revenue, in which Celtic and Rangers cannot compete despite unrivalled fanbase.

Celtic could enjoy enormous growth in the British Super League and be able to attract more players, managers etc. However, there would be a resignation of the Scottish game which has been thus unaffected by over-commercialisation. There is a humour and raw passion of the Scottish game that is unique and would be sorely missed if Celtic were to leave the SPFL. Whether the SPFL would sign off on any plans remains to be seen, it could be a case of doing the league for a couple of seasons and taking it from there. Ultimately, Celtic (and Rangers) cannot compete with the financial might of some of these teams but they have a fanbase which is almost unrivalled in the English game.
