“Who would buy him now?” Journalist sums up Ibrox club’s dilemma

Alison McConnell has tore into theRangers yesterday-man Alfredo Morelos, claiming his current conditioning for an athlete is a ‘disgrace’, whilst she also stated that it is ‘shameful’ in a scathing attack on the once heralded attacker. Morelos has been badly out of shape for some time now and has been heavily criticised by the Ibrox support too.

The once Great Hope of the newest Govan institution has saw a mighty fall from grace over the past while, as Giovanni van Bronckhorst has preferred Croatian striker Antonio Colak to the Colombian in recent times. Despite being given a second chance, the player has not taken it and now has many baying for his head after some terrible outings.

In a week that showed the Ibrox accounts still made a loss and with no sustainable player-trading model to work off like Celtic, therein lies the dilemma that the Ibrox club and its board of directors now face: whether they can afford to sack Van Bronckhorst or not.

Morelos used to be lauded by the blue sea mob, as they used to rabbit on about him being better than Edouard and his he would eventually fetch far more money. Yet here we are. Eddy was sold and we still made a tidy profit that has helped sustain the various obstacles we’ve faced, including Covid and losing the league title.

We have hired a new manager and were able to give him £38 million to spend on new players thanks to our trading in the marketplace. Along with Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie (to a lesser extent), we have been able to spring back from a looming disaster straight away and steady the ship onto a more clear and prosperous path.

The same cannot be said of our foe across the city and this is the crux of the dilemma they face. Morelos will fetch next to nothing now and he is a free agent soon. The decline has been nothing short of sensational from El Buffalo. So much for him being better than French Eddy….

Fantasy Island stuff over there!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
