Why White Smoke is Expected over Paradise, Fingers Crossed for an Imminent Announcement

Steven McGowan at the Scottish Daily Mail remains one of the most well-informed of all the Scottish sports journalists.  Here’s the headline (below) on the back paper of his newspaper today (newspapers? remember them? Anyone else remember black and white televisions?)

McGowan’s news, presumably coming directed from the club, is that the Eddie Howe appointment is close and that he is busy recruiting his backroom team at the moment. Presumably therefor this means that the roadblock to getting this deal over the line – Eddie being allowed to select his own backroom staff – has been resolved to everyone’s satisfaction, no doubt with no little compromise on both sides.

Earlier in the week, after John Paul Taylor responded to a question from a supporter concerning new CEO Dominic McKay, the Celtic FC SLO explained that McKay’s new role does not start until 1 July and at the moment he is simply getting an understanding of the business processes.

Or to put it more simply, he’s having a look under the bonnet.

That doesn’t actually mean what was reported on various fans media sites (not this one) that McKay would not be speaking to the supporters until the summer, when he takes over as CEO.

In fact the information that we have is that both the new CEO (formally begins on 1 July) and the new manager (presumably Eddie Howe) will be speaking publicly at Media Conferences within the next week or so.  That information is now a week old and at the time the timescale was within the next fortnight.

Now these things can be pushed back for a variety of reasons and remember it’s Celtic we are talking about. Remember that time Brendan Rodgers was in John McGinn’s house at the end of the season assuring him that Celtic would be getting the deal for a few million sorted with Hibs. The midfielder, who was desperate to sign for Celtic waited and waited and waited. May, June, July and by August he did sign …but for Aston Villa.

So we know not to count chickens but unless there is some intervening event we can expect Howe to be announced sooner rather than later. But keep your fingers crossed.
