‘There will be a time to leave Hibs,’ McGinn

JOHN McGINN had nothing whatsoever to say about the transfer speculation yesterday linking him with a move to Brighton.

It was pretty desperate stuff that one – within an hour it was being rubbished on the Brighton fans forums as being not just fake news but old, re-hashed fake news.

Some-one wanted an English interest in McGinn story out there though and it would not have been anyone at Celtic.

We immediately said that Brighton would be wasting their time – see HERE – because the player is focused and knows exactly the move that he wants to make in this transfer window and that is to the East End of Glasgow.

If he has to wait until the English window closes next week – when the options will reduce dramatically for the selling club – then so be it. Even if it means playing on at Hibs for the rest of the year and wait to sign a pre-contract with Celtic on 1 January then that’s what he’ll do.

Celtic will save a few million and Hibs and St Mirren – who are due a sizeable percentage of any transfer fee – will get nothing.

That’s unlikely to happen and McGinn will be a Celtic player by the end of the month. Probably.

Yesterday he spoke about the speculation linking him with an exciting move to Brighton Celtic. The midfielder has tried to concentrate on playing football to take his mind off it all.

“It was really hard initially, but when you’re on the football park, you forget.

“You’re walking along the street and everyone is asking you. It’s no bother for the first few times, but then it starts getting annoying. You just want to focus on your football and keep getting better and let things happen.

“It’s tough, I’ve never hidden from the fact that there will be a time that I move on, but it will have to be the right time and the right moment. Obviously, though, it hasn’t come yet.

“Football is a great place to get away from things. I know you try and ignore it, but sometimes it’s impossible.”

McGinn who will feature in the opening fixture of the season tomorrow against Motherwell at Easter Road continued:

“I’m grateful for what this club has done for me and I love playing for Hibs – I never take that for granted.

“It’s nice to know you’re doing something right but at the same time I need to be respectful to Hibs.

“I’m their player and I’m under contract here and as long as I’m a Hibs players I will give 100 per cent.”
