Winter Blues – Summer Green the third foreign star to leave Celtic FC Women this month

Celtic FC Women have suffered another major set-back with the news that American striker Summer Green has left the club. Earlier this month told you that the two Spanish stars of the current Celtic side had decided to leave Celtic and remain back home in Spain due to the Covid-19 situation in Scotland.

With the SWPL league currently suspended due to the Scottish Government restrictions on all football outside the Scottish Premiership and Championship, the Celtic FC Women’s team has seen five games postponed and it will be toward the end of next month at the earliest before even training can resume.

“Due to the health situation that Scotland is going through right now, I made the decision to redirect my sports career and stay in Spain,” striker Anita Marcos tweeted on 8 January. “It has been a very intense few months, where I have been able to evolve and learn a lot. Thank you for all the love , I keep you in the heart”.

Brenda Castellano also made the same call to leave Celtic and remain in Spain.

Here’s Summer’s last minute penalty winner against theRangers at their training centre back in November. If you are wondering why a Scottish referee would award a penalty against theRangers don’t worry – all is normal in Scottish football. Celtic had already scored so the referee decided to bring the play back to award a penalty to Celtic, just in case we’d miss it. Summer had other ideas – some strike!

She’ll be a big loss to the Celtic side who have now lost three top overseas stars due to this lockdown. Some reaction on twitter to the news…

“Thanks for everything good luck in the future,”…

“Thats a big loss, best attacking player in Scotland,”…

“Gutted. Summer Green was a real class act and great example to show the young girls. All the best,”…

“She is a cracking player,”…

“I blame the SFA, why would you stay when they are not allowed to even train nevertheless play. These are are professional footballers and are not allowed to do their job. The SFA are treating them disgracefully. Celtic’s loss. I don’t think she will be the last,”…

“Shame, she’s been replaced by Winter Blues…”…

“Why??”…well, see above.
