“World Class” KT, “Incredible,” “tactically and technically he has improved,” Gordon raves about former Celtic teammate

Craig Gordon is well used to watching Kieran Tierney play yet last night the former Celtic goalkeeper was surprised at just how good his old Celtic teammate is these days. Gordon watched on as Tierney developed from a teenager into a top class player before getting his £25m transfer to Arsenal two years ago and, now at Hearts, Gordon reckons that since moving to the English Premier league his old teammate has raised his game even further and is now World Class.

Gordon was back in goals for Scotland last night in the 4-0 World Cup qualifier win over Faroe Islands and he had a busier night that he probably expected against the minnows. The Faroe Islands side had taken the lead in Austria at the weekend and it took a top class save from Gordon to prevent then equalising in the first half after Tierney set up John McGinn for the crucial opening goal.

Tierney and McGinn repeated the trick in the second half in a match where Tierney was supposed to be playing as a central defender in a back three.

“I thought he was incredible,” Gordon admitted afterwards, as reported by Glasgow Times. “He has taken his game on even further. He talks so highly of the Arsenal coaching staff and how they have helped develop him.

“He has been more consistent and tactically and technically he has improved, playing against better players week in week out.

“He has raised his level because of that. I have seen him come through from 17 to where he is now and he will only continue to get better.”

“For us, over the three games he has been excellent if not the standout in every single one. He has been magnificent and hopefully we can keep him fit and playing at this level.

“I think he is world class, I really do. He is so consistent as well and that is what makes him so good.

“He is doing it in every game and he’s a big for us on and off the park. He is also in charge of the music and he is great for the camp and a real valued member of the squad.”

Earlier in the week a French Economics Professor suggested inviting Celtic and theRangers to going Ligue 1 and if this type of thing could happen then there would be no need for players like Kieran Tierney and indeed Virgil Van Dijk – perhaps the best two defenders on the Premier League – to leave Celtic.
