Sensational report claims Eddie Howe is seriously interested in becoming Celtic manager

Eddie Howe is extremely interested in becoming the new manager of Celtic, according to Sun Sport. The 43-year-old has been touted as a potential candidate to replace Neil Lennon for some time but now he is being said to be carrying out his own diligence on Celtic, establishing whether he would be a good fit for the Quadruple Treble winners.

After eight years with Bournemouth, Howe left the Cherries with an enormity of goodwill having continued to punch above the weight of the small, costal side against the financial might of the Premier League. Howe’s stock in England is still high but Celtic are hoping to convince him of the project that is underway in Glasgow with a new footballing operations ongoing. Howe will likely be undertaking due diligence, speaking to people he knows in Scotland and in the game – such as Brendan Rodgers.

As it stands, Celtic need to mount an astonishing rebuild and Dominic McKay will know that he is walking into an immensely difficult job; however, a manager like Howe in an elite footballing operation with a scouting overhaul and a Director of Football can catapult Celtic back to the league title next season.

Howe is likely to await the appointment of a new DOF and the decks were cleared yesterday as Nicky Hammond resigned from his role. Manchester City’s Fergal Harkin is the favourite for the job and many believe that he will be announced shortly. If the Man City infrastructure follows Harkin, with analysts and scouts, Howe will be extremely excited at the prospect of coming to the club.

  1. Cannot see us winning the league back next season as its a root and branch job at Celtic and the time scale is so tight this year but the proper infrastructure needs to be put in place.
