‘Worth a punt’, these Ireland fans want Neil Lennon after shock loss to Luxembourg

Ireland fell to an embarrassing defeat to Luxembourg, a country with a population just over 600,000. Stephen Kenny has endured a torrid start to his time as FAI manager going winless in ten games. The defeat has now lead to a number of Irish fans calling for Celtic legend Neil Lennon to be appointed as manager, replacing struggling Kenny.

Lennon has been out of work since resigning as Celtic’s 10IAR bid capitulated and the only natural conclusion after months of pressure was that Lennon had to go.

It would be an interesting proposition for Ireland and Lennon, who has only managed at club level. The Irishman said he would like to get back into management but there would likely be a lot of abuse directed towards the 49-year-old if he did become the next Irish manager, considering he played for the North.

Lennon has won ten titles with Celtic, eight Scottish Cups and three league cups in two spells as manager and one as a player. He will always be a Celtic legend but it was clear that his time as manager was up. Lennon will be recognised for all that he has done for the club but it may take some time as this season has been incredibly tough for everyone involved.
