Yang could replace Jota as the next Celfic icon

Yang Hyun-jun came off the bench this afternoon for Celtic and truly arrived at the club. The South Korean forward’s play was exceptional from wide to tee up Matt O’Riley to strike the hammer-blow to the Dons that we were in desperate need of to see them off for all three points this lunchtime.

Liel Abada got on the scoresheet today and could and should have got more goals himself and assisted his teammates. The chance which he struck straight at Kelle Roos was especially frustrating, owing to Kyogo Furuhashi being just next to him in an excellent shooting position. Nevertheless, the Israeli played his part and departed the field for his new teammate.

Yang was exceptional when he came on; there was a real dynamism to his play and he is very direct when he is running at people. He produced a magnificent piece of ingenuity and his dazzling feet left the Aberdeen defence agog just before he picked out O’Riley with a beautiful pass which the Dane couldn’t really miss from.

That glimpse he showed us all, could be a sign of what is to come from this emerging talent. Having lost Jota to the mega-bucks Middle East with Al-Ittihad, we badly need to replace those goals and assists in the team. Today, I think we saw what the future looks like without Jota and it aint half bad at all.

If he does that on a regular basis, Yang Hyun-jun will make us all forget about the loss of the former Benfica man and look to a very bright future under Brendan Rodgers’ tutelage.

Different class.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
