Yet another pundit desperately tries to link Celtic star with a Premier League transfer

We’re all aware that the majority of transfer rumours won’t come true, so it’s important to take a step back and think who benefits most from certain stories getting out.

Generally it will be a player’s agent trying to drum up some interest, or a club using the media in some way to try and affect an asking price.

There’s a worrying new trend starting to appear in some outlets, and the best way of describing it is “wishful thinking from former Rangers players”.

Alan Hutton is the most prolific, with various comments recently, but Odsonne Edouard is a common theme.

It’s easy to see why, he’s an outstanding striker who is vital to this Celtic side – Rangers don’t have the finances to topple Celtic or the management team to elevate their current squad to the title, so they need to pull out all the stops to try and weaken Neil Lennon’s side instead.

Hutton made wishful comments about Edouard leaving a few weeks ago, and now Kris Boyd has decided it’s his turn to have a go.

As reported by HITC, he’s been urging Spurs to make a move to sign the French striker, believing that Eddy and Harry Kane could form a formidable strike force.

He also says he might be better off moving to Arsenal, so it’s just a case of naming some big teams and hoping one of them might decide to make a move.

It’s probably worth pointing out that Spurs and Arsenal have been in the news numerous times in recent weeks due to their financial issues, so it’s hard to see them paying a big fee to bring someone in.

It’s hard to see many big transfers taking place this Summer, so hopefully we see Eddy sign a new contract soon.
