“You forget how important he could be,” says Kenny Miller

James Forrest proved that he still has the ability to compete for Celtic after his hat-trick in the weekend’s 6-1 win over Hibs.

Forrest has played a very much reduced role in Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI this season as the arrivals of Jota and Maeda largely kept Forrest out of the team. However, with injuries stacking for the Hoops, Forrest was handed his first start of the season by Ange and the winger did not disappoint. The strikes at the weekend took Forrest to the 100 goals milestone in his career with the Hoops, a stunning achievement.

Former Celtic Striker Kenny Miller discussed James Forrest’s brilliant performance to Sky Sports after the game and considered the winger’s future in Ange Postecoglou’s team. He said…

“I don’t think you can question too much about what Ange has done over his time at Celtic so far. But the James Forrest situation – you forget how important he could be for Celtic and Scotland even still.”

“He’s only 31 years old and when he plays he just shows what he can do. I think he fits in really well to how Ange wants to play and you saw that on Saturday. He’s a constant goal threat. He plays that position off the right really well as he has done for a number of years,”

“He’s always chipped in with goals, hence he gets 100 goals for the club, which is an incredible achievement for him. It could be really daunting if you have Jota on one side and James Forrest on the other side in full flow. It was a wee sign [against Hibs]that maybe he does deserve a little more time and you might see him get more time now.”

Forrest will be hoping to carry this form into Wednesday night’s League Cup clash against Motherwell. Although, given the manager has shown he is keen to rotate the squad, you wouldn’t be surprised if Liel Abada came into the starting XI.
