Brendan waits for Moussa and Stu, while being surprised at Stevie G Ibrox link

BRENDAN RODGERS is waiting on fitness tests on Moussa Dembele and Stuart Armstrong, ahead of Sunday’s crucial match against Rangers at Celtic Park.

Victory will win Celtic their 7th title in row with a victory on Sunday against the club that Brendan Rodgers enjoys playing the most – so far his Celtic team has put 25 goals past Sunday’s opponents and Dembele has scored 7 of them, while Armstrong has scored twice against Rangers.

So Brendan will be keen to have both players available.

Dembele missed the 2-1 defeat at Easter Road last Saturday while Armstrong missed out on that game and the previous match – the 4-0 Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers at Hampden.

Meanwhile the Celtic manager was, predictably enough, asked about his former skipper Steven Gerard who has been linked with the long term situation vacant at Ibrox.

“I’ve seen the speculation over the last couple of days and I was a little bit surprised,” Brendan said.

“But the most important thing when you are starting out is when you feel the time is right and when you feel ready, especially when it is about your first job.

“It is not necessarily about a club, it is about the right club. And if the speculation is right and Stevie has spoken to them then maybe there is something in that, that he feels that it is the right club.

“I know he has always wanted to be a manager, I know that from my time working closely with him at Liverpool, it was something that he wanted to do.”
