Fabrizio Romano has updated Celtic supporters in relation to the club’s pursuit of Aaron Mooy. The 31-year-old midfielder is a free agent following his departure from Shanghai Port earlier this summer. The Italian journalist and transfer specialist has taken to Twitter to state that the Scottish Champions are set to seal a deal to sign the Australian Internationalist on a deal until 2023, with an option for a further season.

Romano stated that the deal would be completed this week as Ange Postecoglou reunites with a player that he knows well from his time as Socceroos manager. On the face of it, Mooy doesn’t immediately improve the Starting XI; however, he comes into the squad as someone that knows of Ange Postecoglou’s style of play and would benefit the squad with his experience and quality.
Celtic have already signed Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers on permanent deals while adding Alexander Bernabei and Benjamin Siegrist. The departures of Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic are still apparent in the squad but Mooy would add some sort of blend between the two as he can play in a deeper role as well as further forward. Celtic will likely seek a central defender and potentially a defensive midfielder later in the window as preparation continues towards the beginning of the league season and The Champions League Group Stages.
My belief is that Ange Postecoglou had a choice between the potential of £2 million PSG youngster Edouard Michut and the proven pedigree of free agent Aaron Mooy, a player he knows and trusts. He’s gone for Mooy.

Morning Gossip: It would appear that our long term interest in Aaron Mooy is gaining momentum. 1 year deal with option for another season looks likely. He is currently a free agent after quitting Chinese side Shanghai Port. Next up hopefully an experienced centre half. HH pic.twitter.com/QBB1NTKe0J
