“A nice way for him to finish off his time at the club,” Moravcik’s advice for Odsonne Edouard

Lubo Moravcik is a great admirer of Celtic’s French Under 21 star Odsonne Edouard – who this week became the most successful goalscorer of all time for his country at that level scoring his 16th goal in 12 international appearances against Russia.

And the former Celtic legend has been considering what’s around the corner for the Celtic striker who he believes will want to leave his old club on a high by retaining the Scottish Cup and doing all he can to ensure that the spirits are raised at the club after what so far has been a frustrating and disappointing season for everyone connected with the club.

And Lubo reckons that Edouard going out with a bang at Celtic could help ensure that he gets the best possible move ahead of what are likely to be the peak years in his career.

“I have watched a lot of Odsonne,” Moravcik said, as reported by Alison McConnell at Glasgow Times. “There was a point a few months ago when I felt I was talking about him to everybody. France were in the same group as Slovakia so I saw that game and a lot of the French games. He was really impressive. He is a very talented player.

“But for any player, wherever he goes next he will want to play. And if he leaves Celtic to go to the English Premier League or another club who have a lot of resources, he will face more competition to play every week. At 23, he is at the stage of his career where he needs now to be playing every week,” Lubo said.

“He won’t want to have to take the time to prove himself, he will want to start games right away. So his mindset when he goes back to Celtic should be that he needs to be at his best. He has a Scottish Cup campaign to play in and it would be a nice way for him to finish off his time at the club if he was to go out with some more silverware.

“I actually think that part of the problem for Celtic this season was that they had too many players who have been excellent for the last few seasons all off it at different times in the season. I don’t think that the league table shows a true gap between the teams,” the Celtic legend added.

Moravcik also gave an assessment of theRangers who have clearly had the wind behind their backs this season and sailed through the covid difficulties without any obstacles being placed in their way – to at least delayed until the very latest possible moment to minimise the damage – what’s that now 7 weeks for a delayed SFA reported that was we were told coming out yesterday, only for it to be delayed again? Lubo recognises the strengths of Steven Gerrard’s side but isn’t buying the hype about how good a side he’s built.

“I watched the last two games between Celtic and (the)Rangers and I also watched (the)Rangers in the Europa League when they played Slavia Prague. I thought they were physical and strong and organised but they are not unbeatable.

“I was watching so many of the results come in after Christmas and it was (the)Rangers 1-0, 1-0, 1-0… they were beating teams without really dominating them. If I was a Celtic player I would look forward to next season. There isn’t a huge amount between the two sides.” Well said Lubo.
