Alan Hutton launches desperate attempt to discredit Celtic’s inevitable title win

It now seems fairly inevitable that Celtic will be awarded the Scottish Premiership title, and the reaction from the Rangers fans has been outstanding.

When play was going on we were all treated to moaning about how the title was lost and the team wasn’t good enough – but the way they’ve been going on since play was suspended would make you think they were 13 points head and on the verge of winning.

Kris Boyd kicked things off as his seethe prevented his brain and mouth functioning in a recent interview:

They are all being trotted out in the media to try and drive the narrative that the title win wont be valid, but it’s just coming off as desperate now.

Alan Hutton already features on a regular basis with Football Insider as he offers up negative Celtic stories with zero substance behind them, so there were no prizes for guessing what would be discussed this time round.

There are a few obvious candidates for teams who will come out badly here, mainly Hearts for being relegated and Hibs if they dropped into the bottom six due to average points per game, but who did Hutton pick?

Celtic, of course he picked Celtic. That’s right, the runaway leaders being awarded the title apparently makes them the biggest losers.

Here’s what the former Rangers man had to say:

“I think the biggest losers are Celtic out of the whole situation. At the end of the day they’re to ones going for the title, 13 points ahead and they would have probably wanted to finish it off in style, going for nine-in-a-row.”

“These things happen, it’s out of everyone’s hands and it’s a difficult situation. You can’t just hand out titles for the season ending. I totally understand everything that’s going on with the virus and how it’s affecting life, we have to make sure that’s A-OK before everything starts.”

“To relegate teams and to give teams titles when there’s an opportunity of teams staying up or winning leagues, it’s just so difficult, I find it hard to give out titles when seasons aren’t finished.”

It’s enjoyable to see the tight rope that the Rangers related personnel are having to walk here. Barry Ferguson was delighted to accept the league title with Kelty Hearts, while Steven Gerrard hasn’t come out to demand that Liverpool be denied the Premier League title either.

Hutton’s talks about how Celtic fans would probably rather the season was played out – and that may be true, but we know it was only to confirm the inevitable – the title race was already over.
