Alistair Johnston needs to start the Scottish cup final next Saturday

Not a good week on the playing front, but we received some good news regarding Alistair Johnston with Ange announcing that he has returned to full training and at his media conference today confirming that he will play tomorrow then be assessed head of next weekend’s Scottish Cup Final at Hampden against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Canadian has been a superb signing for us and it was a huge blow when he hobbled off in the semi-final win over theRangers last month. It looked a lot worse at the time, but thankfully it proved not to be.

Much like Cameron Carter Vickers his absence has been notable as we’ve looked a different side without his influence at the back. His pacy runs and his physicality out on the right have been a huge miss.

Anthony Ralston as always has done his best deputising, but Johnston is the much better player it’s not even up for a debate. Questions have now been asked of Tony’s place in the squad and if he has the ability to succeed even as a back up, but that’s for another day.

I firmly believe the Canadian will start the cup final and it will give us a big boost to have him back in the starting XI. He’s a top player and we need our best players starting every game.
