Anakin Skywalker lookalike Maik Nawrocki – “Robe and lightsaber for the next Christmas video”

Maik Nawrocki was one of three new signings who spoke to the media at Celtic Park yesterday afternoon and seemed genuinely thrilled to have joined the Hoops.

We’ll cover both Kwon and Yang’s media conferences separately but will start with  everything our new central defender, Maik Nawrocki had to say plus there are some supporter comments where some Celtic supporting Star Wars fans have noticed a remarkable similarity in appearance between the Anakin Skywalker character in the movies and our new Bhoy Rocki, with some helpful tips for the Celtic marketing folk ahead of them planning the Christmas video for later this year….

Here’s how the media conference went with the Anakin Skywalker lookalike Maik Nawocki (are we even allowed to give Celtic players nicknames these days? Apparently not but that’s a story for another day)…

Maik Nawrocki’s first impressions of Celtic Park: “It is amazing. I was shocked at how big the stadium was. It is quiet at the moment, but I hope I will see it loud.

Maik Nawrocki on when he first heard that Celtic were interested in signing him from Legia Warsaw: “Two or three weeks ago, my agent was calling me and said, ‘Celtic are interested’. Two weeks ago they called me and said, “Celtic want you”… I wanted to come here after hearing that.”

Maik Nawrocki on what made him want to come to Celtic: “I think everyone knows Celtic have the Champions League. There were big arguments for me to come here to make the next step.”

Maik Nawrocki on NOT speaking to Juranovic about the move to Celtic, so did he speak to Josip? “Not yet, unfortunately, as I only played for three weeks with him. I have not spoken to him.”

Maik Nawrocki on the importance of Brendan Rodgers in his decision to join Celtic: “Brendan is a very good coach, a legend and a great manager. Yesterday he called me. Tomorrow I think we will talk a little bit more.”

Maik Nawrocki on the importance of Celtic being in the Champions League? “It is amazing. The night here at Celtic Park will be amazing with some big games. Also, the league and everything. It is not only about the Champions League.”

Maik Nawrocki declining to describe his defensive style of play: “It is quite difficult to describe myself. I can play some games and then you can describe me.”

Maik Nawrocki on what he’s looking forward to most after arriving at Celtic: “I’m looking forward to taking the next step in my career and playing in big games. I think it is a good place to do that.”

Maik Nawrocki on whether he’s seen any of his new team-mates yet: “Not yet.”

Maik Nawrocki on the unbelieveable atmosphere at Celtic Park: “It is awesome. I think the famous quote from Tony Kroos talking about how it was the best. I remember this.”

Maik Nawrocki on the pressure that comes with playing for Celtic and being expected to win every game: “I come from the biggest club in Poland, so I had pressure there. It is not about pressure for me but rather excitement at coming to this country.”

Maik Nawrocki on his experience at Legia Warsaw helping him make the transition to playing for Celtic: “Yes. It is similar but just a little bigger at this club because of the Champions League.”

Some of the Celtic supporter comments to this media conference with new signing Maik Nawrocki…

“Nawrocki + CCV = Unbreakable Unit!!”…”Can’t wait to see what the bhoys think of for his chant gonna be a belter”…”The Force is strong with this one”…Most of this guys highlights from last season are attacking! This Bhoys a player c’mon Rocky let’s go!…”Rocky.. You will do things very well, in this Great and Beautiful Club; I know!”

“Love this bhoy already, really hope he settles in and plays well”…”Welcome to Celtic Maik “Rocky”. We are very excited to have you join our family and see you play in the Hoops. We know you are going to be superb”…”Hail hail welcome to the Celtic family Rocki”…”He is the absolute double of the boy that played Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars movies”…”He just looks so happy I like him”.

“What a player this boy looks, man. Cant wait to see him in Paradise, partnered with CCV”….”Welcome to paradise Maik! Good luck, god bless.”…”When this kid makes his first big tackle at Paradise? All you’re gonna hear is 60,000 fans chanting Rocky Rocky Rocky Rocky Rocky. Can’t wait”…”Robe and lightsaber for the next Christmas video”!
