Andy Robertson – Worshipping Henrik Larsson, Celtic’s King of Kings

Andy Robertson reveals love for Celtic legend Henrik Larsson on BT Sport’s ‘What I Wore’…

Liverpool and Scotland left-back Andy Robertson has spoken of his love for Celtic legend Henrik Larsson growing up as a fan of the Parkhead club. Robertson revealed he and his brother used to love scoring goals and doing the Larsson celebration when they were just kids out the back of their mum and dad’s house.

Robertson even played for Celtic when he was younger before being released for being ‘too small’ apparently. That did not deter the Champions League winner from forging his own pathway in football. The player rose through the levels to play with Queens Park, Dundee United, Hull City and now English giants Liverpool.

Speaking to BT Sport’s popular ‘What I Wore’ show, he said: “Usually you’re kind of brought into a family of Celtic or Rangers, and my mum and dad had Celtic season tickets before me and my brother were born. I didn’t want a choice, to be fair, it was quite easy for me. My side was definitely Celtic and I loved watching them when I was a wee boy.”

On the Hoops’ famous Swede, he said: He’s my guy. He was a huge part of why me and my brother and all my mates used to go out in the back garden and score goals and do the Larsson celebration – sticking your tongue out and everything. He’s one of the greatest players to play for Celtic.”

Robertson also revealed he loved the feeling of playing for Celtic when he was a boy, adding: “That was the best bit. The day you get told you’re going to sign for the under-11s or whatever, under-10s. But then the day you get all the tracksuit, the bag, the strips. I couldn’t take it off, I just used to wear it in the street and everything and just wore my tracksuit all the time. You felt like you were a proper player but you were only ten years old.”

Celtic certainly missed a trick with Andy Robertson, that’s for sure. Not content with letting him go first time around and missing out on a possible cash windfall when he developed as a player, we neglected the opportunity to sign him back before he opted for the riches of the Premier League with Hull City. What a journey he’s had and thoroughly deserved.

Oh and we share your love of the King of Kings too, Andy!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
