“Ange doesn’t know European football as well as he should” says former Hearts boss Laszlo

Ange Postecoglou hasn’t had the best start to life in European football, but at least he dragged Celtic through the mire into the Europa League group stages against all the odds.

A loss to Midtjylland – mainly due to Vasilis Barkas’s uselessness in goal – ended Celtic’s hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League group stages, instead having to beat AZ Alkmaar to make this seasons group.

It comes at a time of transition for Celtic, so that in itself is – with all things considered – a superb feat, given the failings of last season.

But former Hearts and Dundee United boss Csaba Laszlo has decided to, for some reason, play mind games with the Australian boss.

Speaking to the Daily Record, he said:

There are a lot of problems within the club, they have a new coach and Celtic don’t have a sporting director,” Laszlo said.

I feel that the coach doesn’t know European football as well as he should at that level with a team of the calibre of Celtic.

If we’re looking at possession I’d expect it to be 75 per cent for the Glaswegians but Ferencvaros can still catch Celtic out because they’re not in the form they were a few years ago. Their midfield is still OK and I’d say they can play attacking football with their striker options but there isn’t a top player in defence.

The fate of Celtic will be decided in these two matches, so it is an important question whether or not they will advance from the group in third place.”

We don’t know where he seems to have gotten this confidence from, but it is a lot of big talk for a man who was sacked at Tannadice for losing 5-1 to Ross County!

Celtic take on Ferencvaros at 3:30pm on Tuesday.
