Another blow for Celtic in their manager search as exciting candidate hopes to be appointed elsewhere

While we still probably expect that Eddie Howe will be the next Celtic manager, the club does need to have some alternative options in case that falls through.

The time since Neil Lennon’s departure has largely been spent watching on in horror as some thoroughly underwhelming candidates have been touted for the role, so it was a welcome change when Jesse Marsch was linked with a move to Celtic.

He’s currently the manager of RB Salzburg where his team dominate in Austria, they score a lot of goals and they develop some excellent young players, so there’s no doubt he was an exciting target because that’s exactly what Celtic want to be doing.

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like those Celtic links will be taken any further after a report from The Daily Record, but this just makes too much sense.

Julian Nagelsmann is expected to take over at Bayern Munich in the summer and it’s suggested that RB Leipzig are eyeing Marsch as his successor.

The clubs have the obvious Red Bull link, they share a philosophy and it would give him the chance to step-up into the Bundesliga with an ambitious club that should suit him perfectly so he will be the ideal fit.

They do point out that there may have been something in those Celtic rumours to begin with but this extinguishes any hope, so the search will need to go on.
