Bad news for Celtic as January target reveals his preferred destination

Getting their recruitment right  has been a key reason for Celtic’s success over recent years. They’ve done an excellent job of signing players with potential and seeing them move on for big fees for a while now.

That means it’s vitally important to ensure that any signings are committed to the club and want to be there for a while, signing someone who purely views Celtic as a stepping stone to a bigger club could backfire.

The Sun has reported that one of Celtic’s January targets, Niklas Dorsch has set his sights on playing in the Bundesliga. That’s not to say a move to Glasgow is completely out of the question, but you would have to question his motivations and long term commitment if they did continue to pursue him.

He also indicates that he has no plans to move anywhere in January anyway, so things could change in the Summer but it seems that he wants his next move to keep him in his homeland.

It will be interesting to see if Celtic continue to be credited with an interest after this admission. It’s entirely possible that he was really trying to say that he’s committed to his current team and wants to get them promoted to the top league, but only he will know that.

The midfielder played with Bayern Munich as a youngster before moving to Heidenheim last year and he’s been impressive ever since. He certainly fits the type of signing that Celtic like to make in that he’s young and talented, but it sounds like he’s set his sights elsewhere for now.
