Bertie Auld – Two Green Brigade Tribute Tifos and Ten on the Celtic Shorts

The Green Brigade are asking for the cooperation of the Celtic support at the League Cup semi-final on Saturday evening as they plan to have not one but two tributes dedicated to the memory of Celtic legend Bertie Auld.

The first Green Brigade tribute will appear as the teams come out ahead of kick-off with the second happening in the 67th minute of the match for obvious reasons. The message from the Green Brigade can be read below and the Celtic tribute in having all the players wearing number 10 on their shorts on Saturday is also something that everyone in the Celtic support will appreciate at the weekend. Here’s how the club announced that last night on the official website.

The Celtic players will all wear the No.10 on their shorts at this Saturday’s League Cup semi-final against St Johnstone at Hampden in tribute to Bertie Auld.

The Lisbon Lion sadly passed away last weekend at the age of 83, and supporters have been leaving their own tributes outside the front of Celtic Park in memory of the Celtic legend. And on Tuesday, manager, Ange Postecoglou, captain, Callum McGregor and acting Chief Executive, Michael Nicholson, laid a wreath on behalf of the club.

Now, with the Hoops aiming to beat St Johnstone and book their place in the final, the Celtic squad will pay a further tribute to Bertie by wearing the No.10 shorts he was synonymous with, at a packed National Stadium, the majority of whom will be wearing green and white.

Celtic and St Johnstone have actually met once in a League Cup final. That came back in October 1969, and Jock Stein’s side won the game and lifted the trophy thanks to Bertie Auld scoring the only goal of the game after just two minutes.

Supporters can also leave their own tributes to Bertie in an online Book of Remembrance on the club’s official website.

Now all we have to do is win the game for Bertie!
