THE NEWS this morning that the empty Rodgers home in Bearsden has been burgled is a matter for the Police, who apparently were watching the property over the past week since it very publicly became vacant.
To be clear this will be the work of opportunist criminals and is not some kind of revenge attack on our former manager from some deranged Celtic supporters, angry at the nature of the Irishman’s departure from Scotland a week ago. That’s exactly how the SMSM would like to frame it.
Over the last few days we have seen the Celtic support wrongly accused of throwing the Buckfast bottle at Easter Road and all subsequent mentions of this incident , until today, have been ambitious as to which set of supporters threw the bottle.
It’s only really because Hibs have commented about and by doing so confirmed that it was from their supporters that the media, somewhat reluctantly are referring to this as a Hibs incident.
And one of the red tops this morning covers the football crimes from the weekend and manages to IGNORE the seat through incidents at Pittodrie. It’s incredible really.
The Rodgers address will be well known to locals in and around Bearsden and professional housebreakers would have no real difficulty finding out the address if they wanted to.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed the crime in a statement.
“At around 1.55am on Wednesday March 6, police received a report of a break in at a property in Drymen Road, Bearsden. No one was injured in the incident but a number of items were stolen from the property.
“An investigation is underway and enquiries are ongoing.”
This adds to the unhappy manner in which Rodgers left Celtic and is regrettable to say the least.
