Brendan Rodgers shares his opinion on Reo Hatate transfer rumours

Brendan Rodgers has responded to the recent transfer speculation that has been accumulating around Celtic midfielder, Reo Hatate.

The Celtic boss revealed his lack of surprise at the transfer rumours gathering around Reo Hatate, as he is ‘excellent’, however, Brendan hopes the Japanese midfielder will remain at Parkhead so he can further develop Hatate as a player. The main fear was that ex-Celtic boss, Ange Postecoglou, would swoop in and take Hatate with him to Spurs, whereas other rumours hinted at interest from Brighton. However, the Celtic boss reckons that Reo should stay with the Bhoys and have another crack at the Champions League, as his performance last season was most impressive. As reported by the DailyRecord, Rodgers said…

“Reo will have gained invaluable experience from playing against the best players and best teams in the best stadiums. Going up against world-class players only helps. I watched the Champions League games last season and Reo was excellent. Against Real Madrid at home, he was very good. These experiences just enrich you and enhance your personal development as a player. No doubt he will benefit from more of that this season.”

Rodgers continues to praise Reo Hatate after training with him for the past few weeks.

“Reo’s physically very good. He’s in great physical condition, he’s quick and technically very good. In the opening few weeks, I’ve seen his tactical ideas as well. So he’s one I’m looking forward to working with more. He’s showed up well at Celtic already, scoring big goals in big games. I can imagine there’s been interest in him because that’s always the case for good players. But he’s a player I really like and hope to help develop him further.

“For every player, there is always learning that takes place. We have a number of players in their early to mid-20s so there is still development for them to improve.”

Reo Hatate’s performances in Europe were truly excellent. Not only did he hold his own ground against some of football’s greats, like Luka Modric, Hatate actually excelled and attracted the spotlight towards him through his outstanding vision and passing. Reo could really boost his game under Brendan, so hopefully, he will follow Brendan’s advice and remain at Celtic for another go at the Champions League.
