You wouldn’t normally associate Ronaldinho with Chris Killen or Scott Brown, in terms of a footballing trio. However, it is exactly that which emerged in 2008.
Speaking to the Open Goal podcast, Lee Naylor revealed that following Celtic’s exit from the Champions League in Barcelona, the three ended up on the beer together!
Gordon Strachan was well known to turn a blind eye in the lobby of a hotel post match, allowing players to have a beer or two. However, some pushed the boundaries.
“I remember one time, it must have been Barcelona away” Naylor said. “Kipper (Killen) and Browny, everyone is sitting in the lobby and you see these two lads in white jeans and a white top, screaming down the bleeding exit stairs. Looking around, creeping, but everyone could see them. It was ‘Oh what is going on here, it is all going off’. They were partying with bleeding Ronaldinho out in Barcelona.”
How it materialised is unknown, but it was one way of turning the attention away from the 4-2 aggregate exit that night. “There must have just been this one place and Ronaldinho was known for being a party boy,” Naylor said. “So those players snuck out and partied with Ronaldinho. Why didn’t I go too? I wasn’t all like that, I was a good boy.”
