Cameron Carter-Vickers is massively underperforming. If Liam Scales put in similar showings he’d be torn to shreds…

It’s a topic that some Celtic supporters won’t want wish to discuss, but it’s important that we do, and that is the recent poor form of Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Underperforming players like Reo Hatate, and Nicolas Kuhn will be highlighted more, but our Big Strong Man, the rock and heartbeat of our defence has also been found wanting these past few weeks.

CCV, who is our leader at the back, and so often holds our backline together, has looked a pale shadow of himself these past few weeks, and you could argue that he’s been below par this entire campaign. Perhaps the toe issue he has not been fully resolved and he’s playing through the pain barrier? We should be told if that is indeed the case.

No one wants to hear it, but it’s true. CCV’s not been that wholehearted, fully committed, all round central defender that we have grown to admire and rely on the marshal the Celtic defence and give nothing away . He’s the man who brings us stability and security at the back, like a few others in the side, has been massively guilty of underperforming.

In fact if Liam Scales has been putting in the same sort of performances he’d have been torn to shreds by the more critical element of our support. CCV like a few others in the side desperately needs to up his game. And on Scales he lost his place to Auston Trusty as the American has more pace.

That’s needed for the Champions League more than playing against a low-block in Perth against the team rock bottom of the league. Scales has a better passing range than CCV or Trusty and we could have been doing with that yesterday. Yes, I know he was unavailable but is can play on Saturday and he should. So too should Maik Nawrocki.

Unfortunately, Celtic are suffering the same fate as Rangers. They dont have enough experienced players mixed in with young Celtic and foreign talent to inculcate expectations. People who understand the culture of the club. The mindset frustrating Brendan is not part of our culture and its only the managers experience of that culture that is creating the gap between the two clubs.
The next game should have CCV and Rocki in defence along with AJ and Greg Taylor. The midfield should comprise Bernardo in the holding role, Hatate and Calmac showing young Engles how to meet the managers expectations. Allowing the young player to have a metaphorical arm round his shoulders while observing Calmac. Forrest and Yang on the wings with Maeda up top.
