Celtic 2-1 RB Leipzig: ‘It was a great finish by KT,’ Quarter-Back hails great Left Back

QUARTER BACK Callum McGregor hailed his Celtic Academy co-star Kieran Tierney for a wonderful, goalscoring performance last night against RB Leipzig that keeps Celtic were much alive and kicking in the Europa League.

BBC Scotland, who earlier in week, were showing The Rangers as top of their group when in reality they were in second place behind Villareal on goal difference – talk about fake news! – were quick to jump to any possible negative last night, by pointing out to an esctatic Brendan Rodgers that his side were worse off than Leipzig in the head to head.

Yeah, but they have to go to Salzburg for their remaining away match – the Austrians are on maximum points – while Celtic go to Norway to play pointless Rosenborg.

Celtic will need to win their remaining home game against Salzburg to keep alive their chances to progress but two wins should be enough. If we had to get three points in Austria you would have to be a little more negative, no?

Anyway back to Callum on Kieran Tierney.

“The first goal gave us great belief to go on and win the game.

“It was a great finish by KT. Even when we lost the equaliser in the second half, we knew teams are always vulnerable just after they score.

“We got forward as quickly as possible, got a goal straight away to regain the lead and it gave us the confidence to see the game out.

“We’ve been looking for a big victory and this will hopefully spur us on to get something from the group.”

And Tierney himself seemed delighted with the way the night had gone for himself and the team.

“When we’ve conceded goals in Europe in the past, our heads have gone down. This time we reacted and gave the fans a great night,” he said to the media after the brilliant win.

“It was brilliant to score. We’ve played well in the weeks leading up to this game and we carried it on here.

“I just concentrated on getting my shot away. I’m not known for my goalscoring so it was brilliant to get one here.”
