Celtic 2-1 RB Leipzig: ‘We’ve the fight, spirit and quality to hurt the opposition,”Celtic boss

LISTEN to Brendan Rodgers’ press conference from last night after the sensational win over a very fine German side. RB Leipzig and Celtic now look to be neck and neck to get through but it should be remembered that Salzburg need a point to be sure of qualification.

Should Leipzig win in Austria in the next game by two clear goals then the Germans would be in pole position to progress as Group winners and Salzburg would have to avoid a similar 2 goal defeat at Celtic Park.

They’ll want to get their place booked in the next game and avoid that scenario so that should be good news for Celtic -provided we can take care of our own business in Norway against so far pointless Rosenborg.

“It was fantastic and a fun night in terms of winning. A big thank you to all the supporters here,” Brendan said.

“The players were absolutely brilliant and we deserved to win. The effort we put in to press the ball was fantastic.

“We kept fighting to the very end. It’s how we have been playing for the last seven weeks. When you press as a team, you can have no egos.

“Everyone has to be able to run and press and be aggressive. We showed that.

“We created some good chances and maybe could have scored another couple of goals.”

The Celtic boss was particularly pleased with his side’s remarkable 14 second response to the RB Leipzig equaliser. It was a devastating blow for the Germans.

“We spoke about it before the game. To show yourself as top players, you need to be able to respond to things going negatively in a game.

“Sometimes things have gone against us and we haven’t been aggressive.

“But it’s a mark of really good players to have the fight, spirit and quality to get back and hurt the opposition.”
