Celtic 3-1 RB Leipzig – Brendan is cooking something very special

We not only beat Leipzig, we outfought and outplayed them. It was a privilege to be at Celtic park last night. Brendan is cooking something very special…

It was a privilege to attend Celtic park last night as we put on an absolutely magnificent performance against a decent RB Leipzig side. In the end we were well worth the three points as we defeated the second placed Bundesliga side by three goals to one and it could have been an even bigger margin of victory.

It wasn’t just the result, but the manner of the performance. We weren’t at any stage apart from maybe a ten minute spell in the first half hanging on, we more than competed with the German side and blew them away with our football.

We were far superior in every department. We outfought them, and outplayed them, and in the end the 3-1 scoreline flattered the Bundesliga high-flyers.

Each and every one of our players deserve great credit. They didn’t put their heads down after going a goal down against the run of play. They showed great spirit and determination to get back into the game and put in a performance to earn a valuable three points.

Nicolas Kuhn was a major contributor to that with a brace in the first half to put us into a 2-1 lead heading into the break. The German winger is in the form of his life and will only get better.

Callum McGregor ran the show in the middle of the park and put in the best performance I’ve ever seen from him at this level against a top side. He never wasted a pass and dominated the midfield, it was true captain’s performance. Reo Hatate of course was also instrumental and rounded off a great performance by grabbing the vital third goal.

At the back I was very impressed with Auston Trusty who continues to impress. He was a colossal and doesn’t look out of place at this level. All the players looked so comfortable at this level and it was a joy to behold.

Brendan is cooking something very special here and it bodes very well for the future.

  1. Rodgers has received some huge criticism, after some bad beatings at CL level?
But going back to back with masterminded two fantastic results, after dortmund, is to great credit to himself?
Made some huge calls, in team selection beforehand, along with even bigger calls during the game, and all turned out to be fantastic for the overall game plan last night?
Had concerns regarding Trusty and Taylor beforehand with an untested left hand side of defence?
But Taylor ability to keep hold of the ball better than valle, worked out so well in the end, with valle able to add another dimension in our attacking play, later within the match?
Was fuming with Trusty, in giving such a bad ball away, leading to the corner, and conceding the first goal?
Become so use to ourselves tending to crumble, after going so needlessly behind in a huge CL game?
But last night we saw something that we aren’t really use to?
Our team never panicked, kept there composer and belief, within our approach to the game, and was deservedly in front by half time.
Even in the second half, instead of the hanging on approach, that we have also become so use to?
The subs injected another lease of life into our play, where we could have possibly ended up by winning by a bigger margin than we did in the end?
The introduction of yang, who done so well, still doesn’t make any sense in theory?
As regards forrest is Rodgers go to wide player within the SPFL, yet back to back within the CL, Rodgers has turned to yang instead of forrest, and on both occasions worked out well for ourselves?
It’s one thing for Rodgers putting a masterplan in place for such a massive CL match, it’s another story all together for the player’s to actually deliver such?
And to a man, our players were superb in delivering the likes also?
Calmac and Hatate were outstanding in controlling the midfield, and Engels and Paulo contributed hugely also?
Said before is kuhn starting to make an even bigger impact that jota once provided for ourselves?
Certainly starting to get the recognition to be placed in the same bracket at present, with even more to come from himself also?
Of course we had a few nervous moments, but kasper stood up and keeping himself as a spring chicken in his footballing approach still?
This current Celtic team is fast becoming one of our many special teams formed?
With actually getting a bit of consistency at CL level, against very decent European teams, then we are fast becoming to a stage, where we could be talking about just how high up the ladder, this team will become?
Already fairly high up the ladder at present, and still climbing in the right direction?
This current journey that we are all on at present, just dont want it to end, anytime soon either?
But with all the pieces fitting together so perfectly last night, and starting to become a regular occurance for ourselves also, then this journey has got some distance to go yet, with even more rungs of the ladder to be climbed, before the end of this magical season forming imo?
