Celtic confirm double signing of Joe Hart and James McCarthy

Celtic have confirmed the signing of the double signing of Joe Hart and James McCarthy. The experienced pair have agreed on long-term deals as Ange Postecoglou look set to improve on the quality of his squad.

Ange Postecoglou has been in need of recruitments following defeats to FC Midtjylland and Hearts and now the club have acted quickly to secure the seasoned pros in order to bring experience and quality to the side. After weeks of waiting for signings, Celtic have popped up and announced two at once.

Hart, 34, joins from Tottenham Hotspur where he made ten appearances deputising for France’s World Cup-winning captain Huge Lloris. The ex-Man City goalkeeper has had spells with Torino, West Ham and Burnley but has never settled into regular first-team football. He will be hoping that the move to Glasgow will allow him to compete in Europe, win trophies and potentially earn an England call-up with the 2022 World Cup on the horizon.

McCarthy has been linked with a Celtic move since his Hamilton Accies days having grown up as a Celtic supporter. The 30-year-old midfielder has agreed a four-year deal with the club as Postecoglou gets a holding midfielder to compete with Soro for the deal.

These are two impressive signings that Celtic have made, they are not ones for the future, they are first-team players. Celtic can also use the pair in the Europa League if both are registered before tomorrow night’s deadline; however, it is expected that McCarthy will not travel to Czech Republic and train on his own in Glasgow.

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou had this to say about his double signing today “I’m delighted that we have signed two top-class players in Joe and James. Both of them have a wealth of experience at both club and international level, and that is something which can only benefit the squad, and I’m looking forward to working with both of them.

“I know our supporters will be well aware of both players, and I’m sure they’ll welcome them to the club and look forward to seeing both of them play for Celtic in the seasons ahead.”

Speaking of his move to Paradise, Joe Hart had this to say: “This is a great moment for me in my career and I am absolutely delighted to be joining a club of Celtic’s stature.

“I know just how big this club is and of the incredible support that it enjoys, and I can’t wait to play in front of the fans at Celtic Park.

“I’m looking forward to meeting up with my new team-mates now and getting to work with the squad and, in particular, the other goalkeepers here.”

And James McCarthy added: “To have signed for Celtic is a brilliant feeling and this is a special day for me and my family.

“I know all about the club, the size of it and all the success it’s enjoyed, particularly in recent years. I’m looking forward to pulling on the Hoops, playing at Paradise and helping the team deliver more success to these amazing fans in the seasons ahead.”
